Workers' Comp - Compare and Contrast with PI Cases (Medical Claims and Liens), Missouri Bar Solo & Small Firm Conference (June 9, 2011)

During the past ten to fifteen years, there has been an evolution in the way that attorneys have to deal with medical bills in injury-related cases. This evolution has seen the rise of previously unheard of duties for the client and his or her attorney. One practical effect of this evolution is that even after a client's original claim is concluded, either through trial or settlement, there is often a second case that must be handled (and sometimes litigated) to determine how the medical bills will be resolved. There is no "one-size-fits-all" answer and each case will vary based on any number of factors. This program will attempt to catalog the various types of medical claims and liens that a Missouri attorney may face during the prosecution of a personal injury or workers compensation case and provide a number of resources and suggestions on how to go about finalizing the medical bills.
