Lear Werts In The Community

The attorneys of Lear Werts LLP firmly believe that community involvement is an important part of the practice of law. Here are a few photos of several of Lear Werts LLP's projects.

Boys State

The American Legion Missouri Boys State is one of the nation’s foremost leadership training programs for high school students. Among other things, students at Boys State learn how our judicial system works and receive hands-on instruction by serving as judges, jurors, and attorneys in mock court cases. Brad Lear is member of the Missouri Boys State Board of Directors and serves as the lead legal instructor for the program. Below are a few pictures of Brad working with the students at Boys State.

High School Mock Trial

The High School Mock Trial competition teaches students about our jury trial system by taking the role of attorneys and witnesses in a mock trial. From opening statements to closing arguments, the students conduct a full-fledge jury trial. For several years, Brad Lear has coached the Hickman High School Mock Trial team which has been fortunate enough to win both state-wide and national competitions. Below are a few pictures of Brad’s mock trial team in action at the National High School Mock Trial Competition.

Trial Layers Care

Trial Lawyers Care is the charity arm of the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys. When MATA receives a charitable request ¬– including fans for low-income people during summer’s hottest months, bike helmets for kids, and aid to disaster areas – the MATA officers will turn to Trial Lawyers Care to support those projects. Todd Werts and Brad Lear of Lear Werts LLP are active members of Trial Lawyers Care. Below are pictures of the firm’s attorneys working with people struck by natural disasters and building a house with Habitat for Humanity.

Boone County Bar Association Scholarship Program

For the past several years, Todd Werts has been the chair of the Boone County Bar Association’s Bar-Schools Committee. This committee coordinates the local bar association’s involvement with the Columbia Public School’s Partners-in-Education program and the association’s annual scholarship program. This program awards a $1,000 scholarship to one graduating senior from both Hickman and Rock Bridge High Schools. Additionally, a third $1,000 award is rotated between the other schools in Boone County. Mr. Werts is seen here presenting an award at Rock Bridge High School in 2007.
